Situated in Plymouth’s bustling Village Landing Marketplace, Nectar Collective is a women’s clothing and accessories boutique with a strong sense of community. Every Monday, owner Maryann McClellan shares a “Stock The Shop” poll on Instagram, encouraging her followers to choose the pieces of clothing they’d like to see in the store. She takes their feedback seriously. “I want customers to feel like this is their boutique as much as it is mine,” says McClellan.

Originally, Nectar Collective was slated to open in April of 2020. However, McClellan was forced to postpone the launch due to COVID-19 restrictions. A former marketing manager who holds a business degree from Bryant University, the Plymouth native was determined to make her dream of owning a boutique come to fruition. She pushed forward, believing that without risk, there can be no gain. “Listen, if you can’t stop thinking about it, then you can’t stop working for it,” says McClellan. “I love that quote, it expresses my feelings exactly.” 

A self-described “one woman show,” McClellan focused her attention on the details of her business before finally welcoming her first customers in June. She knew that opening during a pandemic would require her to come up with unique ways to engage with customers, both digitally and in person. The early success of her business is a testament to her dedication.

McClellan’s goal is to ensure that every woman feels confident and beautiful. She makes an effort to source intentional pieces of apparel, jewelry and other products that support a social or environmental cause. Some of her featured products include Aid Through Trade Roll-On Bracelets, a company that employs 200 females artisans in Nepal; Quay Australia sunglasses, which donates to causes such as Change the Record, The Healing Foundation and The Aboriginal Literacy Foundation. She also stocks Ah-dorned crossbody bags, Six Fifty clothing, Capri Blue candles and local brands like Lavender Ali flower prints, Katie Elizabeth greeting cards, and TRUST Jewelry. McClellan tries to offer something for everyone—both contemporary and timeless pieces that will seamlessly fit into any closet.
