When it comes to the art of coloring hair,  Kristen Barry McNeil is a stylist with Hollywood appeal. In addition to being a longtime stylist at Charles David Salon in Hanover, and also her recently opened salon Kristen Barry McNeil Hair Studio in Foxborough, she has worked as a hair colorist and stylist on the set of numerous television and blockbuster movie productions filmed in the Boston area.

“Coloring hair is my specialty,” says Kristen, who grew up in Marshfield and developed a passion for doing hair at a young age. After cosmetology school, Kristen moved to New York, where she started doing hair on Broadway. It was around this time that she landed a gig as the hairstylist for “Good Morning America” host Joan Lunden, whom she worked with for nearly seven years. Her celebrity jobs also included a stint on the “Rosie O’Donnell Show” and at “Saturday Night Live,” where she did Jimmy Fallon’s hair for two years. 

After Kristen got married, she moved back to the South Shore and began working at Charles David Salon, while continuing to moonlight with movie gigs. One of her specialties is coloring wigs, which has come in handy when working on films like “Free Guy,” “Joy,” “American Hustle,” and “The Forger.” Most recently, she worked on the AMC series “Kevin Can F**k Himself.” Kristen is also known for her friendly personality and has many loyal customers. “Having your hair done can really make a person feel great,” she says. “I’m lucky I really love what I do.”
