With a paintbrush in hand and a creative imagination, professional artist and muralist Reneé MacMurray transforms blank walls and canvas into vibrant works of art. The owner of MacMurray Art & Wellness Studio in Norwell, Reneé has spent more than 30 years bringing her passion for painting to life, while creating custom murals and artwork for her clients and teaching art classes for children and adults at her studio.
Reneé MacMurray launched her business in 1995, at 23 years old, soon after graduating from the Art Institute of Boston. Over the decades, she has built an extensive portfolio that includes custom artwork in oil and watercolor over an array of subjects. She is particularly known for her custom house portraits, golf landscape paintings, and murals, which brighten hundreds of homes and businesses across New England. “When I am painting murals I am at peace,” says Renee’. “It’s my happy place.”
Art has also been a powerful source of healing and resilience for Reneé throughout her life. At her studio, creativity and wellness intersect, offering a safe and welcoming space for others to explore the benefits of artistic expression. She leads a variety of classes, ranging from three-hour “Art Escape” painting workshops to more extensive six week painting and drawing courses. She also offers specialized group workshops designed to support individuals with common struggles, bringing people together through the process of creating art.
“Painting offers both physical and mental health benefits. It calms the nervous system, enhances cognitive function, fosters mindfulness, and helps build self-esteem,” Reneé explains. “My goal at MacMurray Art & Wellness is to offer an environment where art is for everyone; a place where people can relax, step away from daily their stress, connect with others and discover the joy of creativity. Students leave the studio with a tangible work of art to be proud to display.”
