“Small Things Mended”: Storytime with Casey W. Robinson

Join the West Bridgewater Public Library for a warm and engaging storytime with Casey W. Robinson, author of Small Things Mended, an Honors title in this year’s Massachusetts Book Awards picture book category. Perfect for young children and their caregivers, this interactive program invites families to listen to a reading of the book, followed by a gentle conversation about its themes of kindness, connection, and the everyday magic of fixing what’s broken.
Small Things Mended begins with a simple gesture: when a lonely older man offers to repair a young girl’s pocket watch, he rekindles his love of mending. As she spreads the word, neighbors arrive with items in need of care, and a small act grows into a gathering rooted in community, creativity, and mutual support. With its quiet power and soft, expressive artwork, the book celebrates the transformative effects of attention, healing, and shared purpose. Young readers may feel inspired to mend a special object of their own, plant something to give away, or brighten someone’s day with a friendly hello.
This program is sponsored by the Mass Book Awards Speakers Bureau and is presented in collaboration with the Massachusetts Center for the Book.
