Amy Marques, the owner of the newly opened Duxbury clothing store Apricot Lane Boutique, grew up loving everything about fashion and beauty. “As my mom likes to say, I fell in love with shopping at 3 years old,” says Marques, who followed a winding career path that eventually led her to become an entrepreneur.
The Kingston resident started out working at beauty salons throughout her college years, and after receiving an MBA, she was promoted to executive vice president at Dellaria Salons. Marques ended up being recruited by Procter & Gamble where she worked for over 10 years in a series of sales and marketing roles. “When COVID happened I took a hard look at my life and realized I was successful, but I wasn’t living my dream,” says Marques. After exploring a few different business opportunities, she decided to bring Apricot Lane, a popular women’s clothing franchise, to the South Shore.
The shop, which opened its doors in April of 2022, is a fashion-forward clothing store that offers styles for women of all ages. “The attractive boutique also features a cozy space for private shopping events, which doubles as a waiting area where husbands and kids can hang out while their parent shop.” Marques hand selects looks that are on trend, but not too trendy (think vegan leather jackets and cozy embroidered sweaters). “I’m always looking for pieces that are a little bit different that can’t be found in every shop around the corner,” says Marques, who also aims to keep her prices reasonable. “We aim to be inclusive and welcoming, and we hope our customers leave feeling a little more stylish and empowered.”
