If you’re a fan of curling up on the couch to watch romantic Hallmark movies on the days leading up to Christmas, you’ll love the latest album released by South Shore singer-songwriter Les Sampou and composer/arranger Ed Grenga.

“Ed and I have been writing holiday songs for film and television clients for many years,” says Sampou. “Ed scores amazingly beautiful tracks and I write the majority of the melodies and the lyrics. We make a great creative team.”

This year, the duo decided to compile a collection of their original holiday songs into the “Best Day of the Year” album. All of the songs on the album were used in holiday films. The song “Christmas Dance,” for example, was selected for the upcoming Hallmark movie, “A Very Vermont Christmas.” The album’s title track, “Best Day of the Year,” was used in the film “The Snowball Effect,” released in 2022. Sampou was inspired to write the song after “interviewing” her parents about their favorite childhood memories of the holidays. The lyrics are about a simpler time when, “a tree and a couple of gifts” was enough.

Sampou also operates The Norwell Voice & Music Studio and two of her students, Anna Ruffini and Stephen Sifflard, sing on the new Christmas album. To purchase a copy of “The Best Day of the Year,” visit lessampoumusic.com.
