A CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™, author, and public speaker, Nicole Peterkin Morong knows how to turn financial dreams into reality. The owner of Peterkin Financial, Morong helps empower her clients by identifying potential financial opportunities and teaching them how to make the most of their resources.

Morong started her career as an advisor in 2011, but her passion for financial planning was sparked much earlier. Growing up, both of her parents had good jobs and were high-earners, but her father was always stressed about money. Morong was a junior in college when her father passed away suddenly and it wasn’t long before she and her mother were sitting in front of a financial planner. After taking a hard look at her parents’ finances, Morong realized that if her parents had understood how to leverage their money better, they would have been able to enjoy a more fulfilling lifestyle, with less stress, on the same income. The experience was eye-opening for Morong and it inspired her to pivot from being a pre-med major to pursue a financial planning career.

“I realized that life is short,” says Morong. “I didn’t want other families to miss out on the same opportunities, so I went into financial planning to help my clients get what they want out of their lives.”

Being a young woman in a male-dominated industry hasn’t always been easy, but it hasn’t fazed Morong. She built a successful business by being a risk taker, asking the right questions and by being confident in her own worth. As a CFP® with a flat fee model, she is selling objective advice to her clients rather than products. She has a fiduciary obligation to recommend only what is in her client’s best interest, and consequently, her advice is comprehensive and highly customized to each client and their personal situation. The first step of the process is for clients to identify their specific goals and values, whether that be a desire to purchase an investment property, increase their travel funds, or simply ensure that family members will be well taken care of in the future. Morong makes a point to check in with her clients on a regular basis and her clients know they can always get their questions answered by either jumping on a call or requesting a meeting.

Morong is the author of the book “If You Love Your Family, Save Like It,” and she has also become a financial literacy advocate for families. Having experienced firsthand how vital it is that both spouses know what is going on and have the opportunity to participate in their financial goals, she makes it mandatory that both husbands and wives attend core planning meetings. At the end of the day, she finds great satisfaction in knowing that she gives clients more peace of mind and the means to live their best life.
