At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, three local women joined forces in a shared mission to provide accessible, compassionate mental health care to the South Shore community. Drawing on decades of combined experience in community-based services, Katherine Peguero, Lauren Grenier, and Latanya Duncan launched Bridgeway Wellness Center in 2020.
Each woman recognized significant gaps in mental health services — both for clients struggling to find accessible, quality care, and clinicians seeking equitable work environments. Now, the group is able to shape Bridgeway Wellness Center’s culture by leaning on their unique strengths, from Katherine’s background in operations to Lauren’s talent for marketing and outreach and Latanya’s skillset in training and staff development.
The center puts clients at the forefront of their own care, encouraging them to advocate for their health. “Our role is to walk alongside them — not lead the way, but empower them to take ownership of their healing,” the co-founders say. “We provide clinical expertise, tools, and support, but clients are the drivers of their own treatment.”
In addition to client satisfaction, the morale of their team is a key priority. Katherine, Lauren, and Latanya strive to make every one of their clinicians feel supported. Over five years in operation, no clinician has ever left due to dissatisfaction — an achievement that speaks volumes about their leadership.
Ever evolving to meet the needs of their community, the founders are constantly seeking ways to grow the center and continue providing culturally sensitive care. In addition to their current outpatient care for children, adolescents, and adults, the center is expanding to include specialized therapy groups, expanded ABA and occupational therapy, and postpartum and perinatal care programs. “We aim to support individuals across all walks of life through flexible, compassionate care that honors their unique identities and lived experiences.”
