Renate Devin
Founder of Boston School of Etiquette bostonschoolofetiquette.com
After two decades in the fast-paced worlds of hospitality and finance, South Shore resident Renate Devin decided to put her expertise to work in a new way, preparing the next generation for professional and personal success. She knew from experience that while technical know-how opens doors, it’s “soft skills” like communication, professionalism, and leadership that keep those doors open. In 2006, she founded Boston School of Etiquette in Cohasset, where she has been coaching clients of all ages ever since.
While her work benefits everyone from aspiring executives to seasoned professionals, Renate says the need is greatest among Generation Z. “They’ve never known a time without a cellphone or social media,” says Renate. “They’re tech-savvy but often lack the interpersonal skills needed for today’s multigenerational workplaces.” Through her hands-on, interactive workshops, she helps students navigate everything from introductions and business dining to online and in person meeting etiquette.
For Renate, the rewards are as personal as they are professional. “I love seeing the pride and confidence my students walk away with,” she says. Whether it’s knowing which bread plate is theirs at a working lunch or how to lead a virtual meeting with poise, these lessons, she believes, are investments in lifelong success.
Her work extends far beyond table manners (though she insists they’re non-negotiable). In an era when remote work is the norm, Renate teaches professionals how to show up—on screen and in person—with confidence and courtesy. “Etiquette fosters a professional environment, improves communication, and reduces misunderstandings,” she says.
Her guiding philosophy? “We all have the ability to learn, grow, and improve—and it’s never too late to start.”
