The Allure of Glamping

Sleeping under the stars doesn’t have to mean roughing it. In fact, luxury camping, commonly referred to as “glamping,” has become increasingly popular in recent years.

“It’s camping, but with a comfy bed, cozy sheets, and a touch of home,” explains Amanda Venezia, owner of the mobile glamping company Glampology.

The East Bridgewater resident works full-time as a paralegal, but she caught the glamping bug after attending camping conventions in California and Colorado in 2021. Inspired by her experience, she took the leap and bought three 16-foot bell tents from the company Life in Tents. Her goal? To bring sought-after glamping experiences, typically associated with destinations like Yellowstone National Park and the Grand Canyon, to the East Coast. Part of her drive to start the business came from her love for the outdoors — namely, the simplicity of spending time in nature.

“I’ve done a lot of work overseas in Peru and Africa, and there’s something about those places where the kids are outside all the time. I had a passion for that,” she says. “Being outside is sometimes all you need — you don’t need some big, high-end hotel.”

Venezia posted photos of her newly purchased tents on Instagram in November of 2021 to gauge interest, and secured her first booking in June of 2022. Fast forward to today, and Glampology now delivers about three glamping experiences to Massachusetts backyards and campsites each weekend from May through October.

Glampology offers tent setups based on a variety of themes, from the Boston Celtics to a splashy summertime theme with flamingo decor. Each tent rental includes beds, light linens, tables, lanterns, and thoughtfully curated decorations. Clients have the option to forgo a dedicated theme and rent only a tent, choosing between the classic “Galaxy” style, the “Stargazer,” which features a 360-degree transparent top, or the eye-catching multicolored “Festival” tent.

Glampology also provides picnic packages for groups looking to take their backyard bash to the next level, plus add-ons like a movie night package — complete with a projector, rugs, and snacks for a cozy cinematic experience.

For those who prefer the ambiance of glamping without venturing outdoors, Venezia offers special indoor options, such as Taylor Swift-inspired slumber parties (which Venezia says has been her most popular theme to date). At these events, multiple single-person tents are outfitted with air mattresses and themed decor — with the option to select extras like nameplates, pillow customizations, and even balloon arches for a grand entrance.

Glampology delivers elevated camping experiences for a wide range of occasions, from romantic date nights and graduation celebrations to bachelorette parties and girls’ getaways. When reflecting on the future of the business, Venezia says she feels confident that people will continue to crave intentional time spent outside with family and friends.

“Glamping has become so popular after the pandemic. It’s really nice to see,” says Venezia.  “I think people just want to be unplugged.”
