June Somers

Owner of Mom On The Go Authentic Grilled Cheese momonthegofoodtruck.com

When June Somers set out to create her Mom On The Go food truck business five years ago, her goal was to sell simple yet sensational food that busy parents would feel comfortable feeding to their kids when they were short on time. As someone who spent 23 years working as the vice president of an insurance agency, this was a major career pivot. However, it was also the fulfillment of a lifelong dream.

“I grew up doing a lot of cooking,” says Somers. “It’s something my mother inspired in us and it’s something I’ve always known that I wanted to do.” After considering different menu options for her mobile catering venture, she decided to focus her efforts on perfecting the quintessential comfort food—the grilled cheese sandwich. “Grilled cheese is something that everybody loves, but you can also be creative with it,” explains Somers. Her culinary creations include ingredients like crispy bacon and sliced Granny Smith apples, savory pulled pork and tangy coleslaw, and seasonal favorites like the “Gobbler,” made with turkey and all the fixings. A year into operating her business, Somers founded the South Shore Food Truck Association and the group now hosts Food Truck Tuesdays and Thursdays at Forge Park in Hanover.

When her catering business took a hit in 2020, due to the pandemic, Somers launched Comfort Food Wednesdays, creating hearty, home-cooked meals for delivery or pickup and donating meals to first responders and people in need. “I love that my business takes me to different places all the time and allows me to give back,” says Somers, who is happy to be making people’s lives a little bit brighter--one grilled cheese sandwich at a time.
