Valerie McSorley

Owner of south shore Hive southshorehive.com

An award-winning special event producer with a knack for networking, Valerie McSorley has dedicated her career to bringing people together to learn, collaborate and form meaningful connections. She is the Owner & Founder of South Shore Hive, a unique and stylish coworking facility in Marshfield. Offering versatile workspaces equipped with advanced technology, South Shore Hive aims to create community while providing members with the professional tools and resources they need to thrive.

The name for South Shore Hive was inspired by this “buzz” of activity coupled with the sheer determination of the bumblebee. “Aerodynamically, a bumblebee shouldn’t be able to fly, its wings are not made for it. However, no one told the humble bee so it keeps on flying anyways,” says Valerie. “I encourage everyone to let that marvel of nature inspire them to let their own dreams take flight. Anything is possible at South Shore Hive. Never let anyone tell you that you can’t achieve your goals.”

In the spring of 2020, after 25 years of planning large-scale corporate events (and just six months after opening the doors to South Shore Hive) COVID-19 brought the event industry to a standstill and forced McSorley to completely reimagine her business. “Throughout the pandemic, countless women-owned businesses have become obsolete overnight. For hardworking go-getters like myself, this is soul crushing. I want to help other women achieve the dreams they have for themselves,” says Valerie.

She now plans engaging virtual events, added a marketplace filled with products from women-owned businesses and launched a “Bee-Kind” campaign to support local non-profits.  “Community is what it’s all about,” says Valerie. “We have all the resources and tools onsite to produce successful results. So please, bee our guest.”
