Sun-Kissed Blonde
The resurgence of the blonde will be very strong this spring and summer. As the spring months start to turn a little warmer, the trend will be lighter, brighter blondes. Also, the gray look on bleached hair is here to stay for a little while. The new Pantone shades for this year are gray and yellow and the blondes will rock these looks for summer.
Gray Enhancement
If you’re noticing more gray hair and you want to minimize the frequency of your salon visits, embracing the gray may be a good choice. Your stylist can place lighter and deeper charcoal-hued strands to enhance the color you already have and make your grow-out seamless. Pink or olive skin tones work best with this look and bright blue or brown eyes complete the palette. Eyebrows should be perfectly shaped and free from grays and cool makeup shades look best.

Ravishing Reds
Red hair is always spectacular when done correctly. When you find a colorist that knows their reds, stay with them. Reds can be tough, but a skilled colorist will know which shade of red is right for your skin tone. Cooler, paler complexions warrant the ruby and burgundy shades, while peachy complexions scream for coppers and golden reds. This year you will see both, but with much more concentration on the cooler reds and burgundy browns.
Smoke-Show Brunettes
Brown hair doesn’t have to be boring. This year, browns will be accented with gorgeous honey and bronze. Think of a dark chocolate brown with ribbons of caramel and cinnamon running through. It’s also the return of the chunky highlight (but not the chunks that we were rocking in the 90s). These are wide pieces with a very diffused root, much like our favorite balayage looks.
Fashion Tones
We’ve all seen the blues, pinks, purples and unicorn colors of today’s hair color world. Many people who never would have dreamt of having these colors gave them a try last year. These styles are fun and more acceptable than ever. But there still has to be a certain level of taste to make these shades pop and maintain the look of healthy hair. What we will see a lot of this year for the fashion tones are the corals, peaches and marine blues. Remember that the hair must be pre-lightened to a pale yellow to be able to accept the proper shade and get the desired results. This can create an enormous amount of damage if not done properly, so be sure to have your color done by a professional colorist.
