Connecting People, Purpose & Passion
In the late 1960s, while visiting their children at a special needs summer camp, a group of parents discussed the reality facing their children as they approached adulthood. At that time, few acceptable residential options were available for adults with intellectual and other developmental disabilities. These pioneering families envisioned creating an appropriate and enriching residential community for their children. In 1972, they formed New England Village (NEV), a 501(c)(3) charitable non-profit corporation.
Today, New England Village operates three locations on the South Shore of Massachusetts and serves more than 150 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including autism and Down syndrome, and sensory disabilities such as hearing and vision impairment. New England Village’s mission is to empower these individuals to realize their potential and pursue their dreams through innovative programs and community living

New England Village members also collected 152 toys for the annual United States Marines’ Toys for Tots drive, participated in the annual Hanson Green-Up Clean-Up Day, and provided gifts to families through Hanson Community Christmas.
