Around the holidays, there are many cherished traditions that revolve around food. First-time author Nina Pfister has written a heartwarming children’s story inspired by her own family’s unique culinary tradition. Set in a quaint coastal town, “The Magic of Christmas Ravioli” is a story centered around a spirited young girl who comes together with her relatives to make pasta from scratch.
“Ravioli Day is a longstanding, multi-generational tradition that my family looks forward to each year,” says Pfister, who hopes her book encourages children to reflect on their own family traditions, whether big or small, and the importance of valuing quality time with family. The story is brought to life through colorful illustrations by Austin Macauley Publishers.
A public relations executive by trade, Pfister had dreamed of being a published author since she was a young girl. When her grandmother passed away last December, she was inspired to finally pursue her goal. “Writing this story felt like a meaningful way to honor her memory and contribute to our Italian American family’s legacy,” she says. A Weymouth native, Pfister fondly recalls the festive nature of her childhood holidays, which were always filled with laughter and delicious aromas and flavors. Her family continues to hold its annual Ravioli Day celebration each year.
