Preparing food for friends and family has always been Brie Pendleton’s love language. The Scituate resident comes from a long line of passionate cooks and remembers spending countless hours in the kitchen with her mother and grandmother and has vivid memories of the family’s “tamale assembly line” during the holidays. These formative experiences instilled her with a dream to someday create a food-based business rooted in joy, creativity and connection.
After spending two decades in Somerville, Pendleton relocated to the South Shore and renovated her Scituate Harbor home with that dream in mind. She designed a spacious, light-filled kitchen studio where her passion for cooking and teaching could truly come alive. Her kitchen is now the home of Seashore Gourmet, a boutique cooking school where local foodies gather to transform simple ingredients—semolina flour, eggs, water, oil, and salt—into delicious handmade pasta.
“I am an eternal hobbyist and a dreamer with an entrepreneurial spirit,” says Pendleton. “I love brainstorming new business ideas and channeling my creativity to bring people together in fun, unique ways. Food is a part of life for everyone and it’s so wonderful to share it together.”
Pendleton soft-launched her business this past summer with a booth at the Cohasset Farmer’s Market. She now hosts intimate pasta-making classes for groups of six to eight individuals, where participants work side by side to sheet, dry, and cut their own creations. Seashore Gourmet has hosted cooking classes for various local groups, such as the Scituate Cohasset Newcomers & Neighbors, and pop-up pasta classes at Stellwagen Brewery. She also offers on-location cooking events at client homes or businesses, serving up private pasta parties, cooking demos, and corporate gatherings.
Each class offers hands-on instruction and fresh pasta to take home. Participants also enjoy a delicious hot meal (think spaghetti and meatballs or classic chicken Parmesan). Seashore Gourmet currently offers classes in filled pasta, egg pasta and pastas with different colors and shapes. Offerings vary by season, from a black pepper infused egg pasta, providing a little pop of heat and spice as the temperatures cool to filled savory pastas that provide comforting flavor combinations, such as chestnut and fontina. Classes also include appetizers (charcuterie, fresh focaccia, and snacks) and BYOB beverages. Custom offerings include “fancy” pasta classes, with upgrades like squid ink pasta and lobster ravioli, girls nights, and cooking classes for couples.
Outside of the kitchen, Pendleton works as a technologist and web strategist and has taught courses at Harvard University. Her unique ability to explain directions and provide guidance in a way that is universally understood translates well to her cooking classes.
Seashore Gourmet classes are approximately two and a half hours long and are open to adults 18 years or older (youth classes are on the horizon). Someday in the future, Pendleton hopes to open a cozy brick-and-mortar store filled with carefully curated gifts, prepared foods, grab-n-go snacks, and an even larger space for her cooking school. For now, she is happy to provide a place where South Shore residents can connect and have fun as they prepare the “ultimate pasta party” together.
